They join forces to unite the woodland creatures and take the forest back into nature s control! System Requirements:Running Time: 86 Mins.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: CHILDREN/FAMILY Rating: PG UPC: 043396165694 Manufacturer No: 16569
Growing up can be a confusing journey fraught with difficult choices. Boog (Martin Lawrence) is a domesticated Grizzly Bear who leads a perfectly happy life inside of Park Ranger Beth's (Debra Messing) garage, but a chance meeting with an overly energetic mule deer named Elliot (Ashton Kutcher) quickly changes everything and lands Boog high in the forest a few days before the opening of hunting season. Devoid of even the most basic survival skills, Boog and Elliot stumble through the woods and find themselves at the mercy of every forest animal from skunks to chipmunks as well as an evil hunter named Shaw (Gary Sinise). After unintentionally inciting and endangering an entire forest full of clever animals, Boog and Elliot come to the realization that only by banding together do the forest animals stand a chance of outsmarting the hunters and ensuring their own survival.
This first animated film from Sony Pictures Animation takes its inspiration from cartoonist Steve Moore (In the Bleachers) and features animals with human-like intelligence, a vibrant color palate, and skilled animation that makes everything from the wind blowing Boo's fur to the animals' wild trip down the falls simply breathtaking. While it doesn't quite live up to Over the Hedge, Open Season is an entertaining production that explores the difficult process of maturation, the universal need for acceptance, and the true value of friendship. Special features include a 15-minute featurette about the animation process at Sony Pictures Animation and Image Works, a 7-minute look at the recording sessions featuring the voices behind the characters, two deleted scenes, three short animated cartoon strips, a short "Boog and Elliot's Midnight Bun Run" that's an extension of the trailer scene in the movie, art gallery, beat boards, humorous commentary from the animals' point of views, and a full length commentary by Producer Michelle Murdocca, Directors Roger Allers and Jill Culton, and others. Activities include a "Voice-A-Rama" where viewers can hear specific lines spoken by alternate voices and a trivia "Wheel of Fortune--Forest Edition" as well as a DVD-ROM link to more online fun. Amazon.com Review When it was briefly shown in theaters with Men in Black II, the delightful animated cartoon The Chubb Chubbs had the awkward distinction of being funnier and more inventive than MIIB. The six-minute film won the 2003 Oscar for best animated short. --Jeff Shannon
Where can a girl who is usually the heartbreaker find the perfect guy? For Christina Walters (Cameron Diaz) the answer is the San Francisco nightclub where she meets Peter Donahue (Thomas Jane). Unfortunately their meeting is fleeting and this quintessential hip party girl is left in unfamiliar territory--smitten by a total stranger. Determined to see her best friend happy Courtney Rockliffe (Christina Applegate) takes Christina on a road trip to Peter's sleepy California hometown in search of the man of her dreams. In the meantime Christina's roommate the just-dumped Jane Burns (Selma Blair) engages in her own lusty pursuits. Diaz and Applegate have great chemistry and are utterly believable as best friends. The script by Nancy M. Pimental who wrote for South Park blends raunchy humor and sentimentality both of which are complimented by a healthy dose of sight gags. Directed by Roger Kumble (CRUEL INTENTIONS) THE SWEETEST THING is an amusing--albeit somewhat crude--look at what people will do for love. The film also features Jason Bateman in fine form as Peter's brother indie queen Parker Posey as a bride-to-be and a brief appearance by Applegate's real-life husband actor Jonathan Schaech.System Requirements:Running Time 90 Mins.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: COMEDY Rating: Unknown UPC: 043396095908 Manufacturer No: 09590
Prudes, beware! Despite its tendency to take the comedic low road, The Sweetest Thing is a near-perfect product of the new-millennial Hollywood. That's a backhanded compliment, but as a fun-loving Yankee girl's answer to Bridget Jones's Diary, the mainstream pandering of Nancy Pimental's lucrative screenplay is undeniably effective. On the opening soundtrack, Macy Gray's "Sexual Revolution" is a perfect accompaniment to gyrating guy-dumper Christina (Cameron Diaz), whose fear of commitment is tested when she meets Peter (Thomas Jane) and knows he's Mr. Right. With supportive gal-pals Courtney (Christina Applegate) and Jane (Selma Blair), she plots to snag the guy, and the movie's road-trip detour mines gut-busting gold from gags involving incriminating dress stains, oral sex, rotting food, garish clothing, and the simple joys of old-fashioned romance. Perfectly cast, raucously ribald, and conventionally charming, The Sweetest Thing is a schizophrenic comedy, but its dual personalities are irresistibly in synch. --Jeff Shannon
The Care Bears live in a country high in the clouds where they have a lot of fun together. But they also do care for the human children on Earth who they watch through huge telescopes from the sky and come to help whenever there is need. Nikolas a magician's apprentice is in danger of getting under the influence of a bad spirit which resides in an ancient spell book. The siblings Kim and Jason don't trust anyone anymore after being disappointed once too often. The Care Bears take them into their wonderland where they experience exciting and dangerous adventures together and quickly become good friends.System Requirements:Run Time: 75 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: CHILDREN/FAMILY Rating: G UPC: 027616070593 Manufacturer No: M107059
The Care Bears were a line of multicolored teddy bears that racked up more than $200 million in retail sales in 1984. The Care Bears Movie was essentially a 75-minute commercial to introduce the new Care Bear Cousins, disguised as a smarmy story about sharing feelings. The film earned $23 million theatrically and ushered in a spate of cheap animated films created to sell merchandise to children. The plot interweaves the stories of Kim and Jason, two lonely orphans who have given up caring, and of Nicholas, a friendless magician's assistant who's seduced by an evil spirit. The Care Bears resolve everyone's problems. Years later, the Care Bears' popularity has waned and the film stands as a reminder of one of the less admirable uses of animation. The stars, hearts, rainbows, and saccharine songs can't disguise the barefaced commercialism behind the threadbare story. --Charles Solomon
