Red Sonja

Red Sonja by Richard Fleischer from Warner Home Video

Brigitte Nielsen, as Conan creator Robert E. Howard's female warrior Red Sonja, gets an assist from Arnold Schwarzenegger in this enjoyably campy, Italian-lensed sword & sorcery adventure. Nielsen's thespian skills may be a bit stiff, but she certainly fills out the physical demands of the role, which asks her to look impressive with a sword as she avenges the death of her priestess sister and the theft of a sacred orb by an evil queen (Sandahl Bergman, also from the '82 theatrical Conan and a match for Nielsen's acting ability). Schwarzenegger (not playing Howard's barbarian king) lends some star power in a supporting role as a warrior assisting Sonja, and if the film stumbles in the acting, scripting, and special-effects departments, Richard Fleischer's direction and cinematography Giuseppe Rotunno are appropriately action-heavy and comic-book colorful (Fleischer also directed Conan the Destroyer and The Vikings); Ennio Morricone's bombastic score is another plus. --Paul Gaita

After her family is murdered a young woman becomes a master of the sword and seeks revenge on the evil queen responsible for the mayhem that has befallen her.Running Time: 89 min.System Requirements:Running Time 89 MinFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: SCI-FI/FANTASY Rating: PG-13 UPC: 012569691124

    Cobra

Cobra by George P. Cosmatos from Warner Home Video

In the opening scene of this thoroughly mindless action flick, a psycho holds a group of terrified hostages in a grocery store, and yells to renegade cop Marion Cobretti (Sylvester Stallone) that he's going to blow the place to kingdom come. "Go ahead," says the cop nicknamed "Cobra," presumably because he's tightly coiled and strikes with deadly force. "I don't shop here." And so it goes with this brutal and for the most part disgusting Stallone showcase, in which Sly's then wife, Brigitte Nielsen, provides bad acting and ample cleavage as a fashion model (what else?) who's the only witness against a crazed cult of serial killers. Cobra likes to kill first and leave the questions to his disgruntled superiors, who call on the maverick lawman when all other options have failed. This movie does have a modest following, and for what it's worth, a few of the action sequences are disjointedly exciting. --Jeff Shannon

Sylvester Stallone creates another electrifying American hero in the Rocky/Rambo mold: Cobretti the cop a fearless dispenser of justice out to stop a gang of serial killers. Year: 1986Running Time: 87 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: ACTION/ADVENTURE Rating: R UPC: 085391159421

          Rocky IV

Rocky IV by Sylvester Stallone from MGM (Video & DVD)

It was time for Sylvester Stallone to say "enough, already" to the boxing hero he plays in the popular Rocky film series, but instead Stallone kept the saga going by pushing Rocky into Rambo territory. The 1985 Rocky IV finds the Italian stallion pitted against a seemingly unbeatable Russian monster named Drago (Dolph Lundgren) who lets his wife (Stallone's then-wife, Brigitte Nielsen) do all the talking. With a mighty punch, Drago has sent Rocky's former opponent and trainer Apollo Creed to an early grave, and the boxer responds with the ultimate challenge. Even the Russians are rooting for Rocky, so it's not hard to guess how the film ends. Despite Stallone's claims to the contrary, this installment was followed by Rocky V in 1990. --Jeff Shannon

Flavor of Love - The Complete First Season

Flavor of Love - The Complete First Season by Robert Sizemore from Paramount / MTV

At their peak in the late-1980s, who could've predicted that Public Enemy's hype man would become one of reality TV's biggest stars? For William Drayton Jr., AKA Flavor Flav, the journey began with VH1's The Surreal Life 3, which spawned Strange Love (co-starring the inimitable Brigitte Nielsen), culminating in Flavor of Love, a down and dirty version of ABC's soft-focus Bachelor. Instead of a tall, bland hunk, the prize is a diminutive 46-year-old with a unique vocabulary ("Yeah, Boyeee!"), an unusual dress sense (Viking helmets, sci-fi sunglasses, wall clock necklaces), and his own "Body Man," Big Rick. Over the course of this 10-part series, 20 women compete to become Flav's lady love. Seeing as the show is made for cable--and that this is the unrated edition--that means risqué language and revealing outfits are fair game (there's even a little Girls Gone Wild nudity from a few Flavorettes). Because Flav isn't good with names, he doles out some easy-to-remember handles. There's the moody Rain, sensitive Smiley, catty New York, etc. In each episode (except for the recap), he eliminates one to five contestants. Those left standing "know what time it is." Challenges include hot tub-speed dating, a fried chicken cook-off, and Vegas-style roulette. A cross between Jerry Springer and a rap video, the "celebreality" extravaganza is an explosion of hair extensions and false eyelashes set to a soundtrack of screaming and crying. Nonetheless, Flavor of Love pulled in the punters--the finale was the highest rated program in the network's history--and was renewed for a second go-round, indicating that America was "feeling" the Flav...and that the winner split the crib. Guests include Nielsen and Flav's Church-going mom, Anna. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

In "Flavor of Love" 20 single women from all walks of life selected for their expressed love for Flav move into a "phat crib" in Los Angeles and vie for his affection. With help and advice from Big Rick Flav's gigantic body-guard and chauffeur Flavor Flav will date all of the women weed out the ones who are only after his fame and fortune...and in the end will choose his one true love.System Requirements:Running Time: 424 MinutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS Rating: NR UPC: 097368502345 Manufacturer No: 850234

Flavor Of Love - The Complete Second Season

Flavor Of Love - The Complete Second Season by Robert Sizemore from Paramount / MTV

What reality series is complete without booty calls, catfights, and accidental defecation? Sure, The Bachelor may have romantic locales and the promise of at least a few weeks of happiness with a tall and ridiculously handsome dude. But the second season of VH-1's raunchy, tacky dating series Flavor of Love has wild action and eagerness on the part of the contestants that borders on desperation. Never mind that the man all the ladies are fighting for is the diminutive Flavor Flav--once known as a rap pioneer for his work in Public Enemy, but best known today as Brigitte Nielsen's plaything from VH1's reality series The Surreal Life. Since the object of his affection turned him down in the previous season, Flav is back to select a potential wife from 20 contestants here eager to get their 15 minutes of fame by pretending to be in love with Flav. Both he and the contestants are much more aggressive this year than in the past and the implication is that if the girls want to make it to the next round, they'd better be willing to make some major nookie with him (and, in some cases, each other). The nicknames he bestows on the contestants add another comic book flavor to the show: There's Toastee, Nibblz, and the return of mouthy New York (back from Season One). And faster than you can say, "Oh no she didn't," New York is in the face of at least a few contestants she doesn't deem worthy of competition. Flavor of Love goes through the motions of being a real reality show, but it doesn't try that hard. It's obvious Flav is taking advantage of his popularity while he can and that the women are hoping their participation will help launch their modeling/acting/singing careers. But no one in their right mind actually believes that Flav will marry any of these unusual women. --Jae-Ha Kim

In "Flavor of Love" 20 single women from all walks of life selected for their expressed love for Flav move into a "phat crib" in Los Angeles and vie for his affection. Comedy Central Roast of Flavor Flav (Extended and Uncensored)

Comedy Central Roast of Flavor Flav (Extended and Uncensored) by Joel Gallen from Comedy Central

Flavor Flav gets clocked! Join Roastmaster Katt Williams as he takes the stage and hosts a no-holds-barred barbeque. Roastmasters Snoop Dogg Lisa Lampanelli Ice T Patton Oswalt Jimmy Kimmel and more take on Flav's history of lovin' lampin' and yeeeeah booooy!System Requirements:Running Time: 73 Mins.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS UPC: 097368529748 Manufacturer No: 852974

There are many words that could be used to describe celebrity roasts, but "genteel" and "highbrow" are definitely not among them--especially not when the victim, er, guest of honor is one William Drayton, better known as Flavor Flav. Even by the dubious standards of the genre, the nonstop stream of vile insults, profanity, and sexual vulgarisms delivered by the likes of Snoop Dogg, Ice-T, Lisa Lampanelli, Jimmy Kimmel, Patton Oswalt, and others in the course of this "extended and uncensored" Comedy Central Roast of Flavor Flav borders on overwhelming. As it happens, it's also pretty hilarious. Flavor Flav was once primarily known as a member of Public Enemy, one of rap's most politically conscious and influential groups. These days he's more recognizable as the clock-wearing, gold-toothed star of his own reality program (Flavor of Love), putative boyfriend of the large and scary-looking Danish actress Brigitte Nielsen, and one-man freak show, and it's a safe bet that it was these accomplishments and not his talents as a rapper that earned him "roastee" status at this 2007 event. The various comedians ridicule his generally strange appearance ("like Idi Amin after a three-year crack binge on the sun"), especially his skinny physique ("Starving children send you 50 cents a day") and ultra-dark skin ("How do we roast charcoal?"); the utter weirdness of his relationship with Nielsen and his penchant for siring kids with a variety of women ("You're responsible for more homeless black children than Hurricane Katrina," says Kimmel) are frequent topics as well. Of course, the roasters spend as much time riffing on one another as they do on Flav, and while some fall flat (Nielsen's moment at center stage is rivaled only by Carrot Top's for most unfunny bit of the night), most are amusing enough to make for a surprisingly entertaining evening. Extras include extended Red Carpet interviews and "Flav-Cam" bonus footage. --Sam Graham

                  Beverly Hills Cop II

Beverly Hills Cop II by Tony Scott from Paramount

The 1988 sequel to one of the most successful movies of all time finds Eddie Murphy reprising his role as Detroit police detective Axel Foley, and once again playing a fish out of water as he tries to solve a series of heists in Beverly Hills that may be connected to the attempted murder of his friend, a Beverly Hills police captain (Ronny Cox). Constructed in a much flashier and faster-paced visual style than the first film, the song still remains the same as Foley tries to keep his job in Detroit while solving crimes for the Beverly Hills cops. Murphy again makes the most of culture shock for comic effect, and the easy rapport between Murphy and Billy (Judge Reinhold), now a cheerfully over the top Rambo-esque figure, is still the centerpiece of this series. While not the least bit original, director Tony Scott (Crimson Tide, Top Gun) puts his own stamp on this installment and keeps the action and the laughs coming. --Robert Lane
