Dinosaurs - The Complete First and Second Seasons

Dinosaurs - The Complete First and Second Seasons by Tom Trbovich from Buena Vista Home Entertainment

Created before the days of computer animation, Dinosaurs is an early 1990s television comedy series featuring impressive anthropomorphic, animatronic creatures created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. The story lines challenge some of society's most basic assumptions and explore some of the most universally troublesome aspects of "civilized" life. Set in six million three BC, the Sinclairs are your "typical" blue-collar dinosaur family attempting to adjust to the relatively new concept of communal living. The adjustments of moving from a nomadic lifestyle to one of domestication and social interaction are many, and challenging issues like the concepts of right and wrong, faith, and the intricacies of family relationships are forever besieging this every-man's family. Naturally, the Sinclair family approach is to address each obstacle with an abundance of slapstick comedy. The Dinosaurs episodes regularly function on dual levels: the puppetry and silly antics like Baby Sinclair's penchant for hitting her father over the head with a pan while hollering "Not the Mama" appeal to even the youngest children, but the often pointed social commentary and sometimes mature themes are squarely aimed at an adult audience. As a result, parental discretion and guidance are key in determining whether this series is appropriate for children under 9 or 10 years old. --Tami Horiuchi

Meet the Sinclairs -- the funniest family in 60 million years! They're just your average family with one BIG difference. They're dinosaurs living the good life in sixty million and three B.C.! Daddy Earl his wife Fran their kids Robbie Charlene and the Baby and feisty Grandma Ethyl bring a hilarious Jurassic twist to daily life as they eat drink make merry and get their kicks watching cavemen rub rocks together. Based on an idea by Jim Henson the award-winning comedy series features state-of-the-art puppetry and audioanimatronics. The Scooby-Doo Dynomutt Hour - The Complete Series

The Scooby-Doo Dynomutt Hour - The Complete Series by Charles A. Nichols from Turner Home Ent

Scooby-Doo, Where are You! was a pivotal television program created by Hanna-Barbera in 1969 that changed children's programming by juxtaposing a group of everyday kids and their goofy dog with truly frightening monsters and elaborate mysteries. After its initial success on CBS, Scooby-Doo moved to ABC and, in 1976, was paired with the new show Dynomutt--a show that built upon Scooby-Doo's success by extending a similar formula to the world of superheroes. In this complete Scooby-Doo Dynomutt series, 16 pairs of episodes follow the Scooby-Doo gang and Dynomutt and Blue Falcon as they solve crimes that involve everything from modern day burglars and skyscraper construction crews to a cave man seeking a college education and newly awakened Aztec ghosts. In the Scooby-Doo cartoons, a nervous Scooby-Doo and Shaggy inevitably manage to stumble upon crucial clues, the accident-prone Daphne always seems to endanger the entire group with her missteps, and the brainy Velma seems destined to solve every mystery with her infallible intellect. Scooby-Doo's cousin Scooby-Dum is introduced in this series in "The Gruesome Game of the Gator Ghoul" and even Shaggy's uncle, the magician Zarko, makes an appearance in "Scared a Lot in Camelot." Harrowing chases and an overwhelming preoccupation with food and Scooby Snacks are, of course, a given. Dynomutt features the ever-malfunctioning mechanical Dog Wonder Dynomutt--a sidekick who, despite being endowed with an amazing array of technical gadgets, consistently impedes the Batman-like superhero Blue Falcon's efforts to save Big City from a ceaseless progression of criminals. Somehow the odd pair always manages to solve the crime and capture the bad guys, keeping Big City safe until the next villain's crime spree. Bonus features include the "Eerie Mystery of Scooby-Doo and Dynomutt's History" that details the creation of both Scooby-Doo and Dynomutt and features interviews with television executive Fred Silverman, Scooby-Doo creative producer Iwao Takamoto, Dynomutt head writer Joe Ruby, and many others vital to the creation of the two cartoons. "In Their Own Words" features reminiscences by voice talents like Casey Kasem (Shaggy), Don Messick (Scooby-Doo), Gary Owens (Blue Falcon) and Frank Welker (Freddy and Dynomutt); and "The Scooby-Doo Dynomutt Files" offers a collection of original still sketches from the Hanna-Barbera Vault. (Ages 5 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour chronicles the outlandish animated union of man and beast to solve crimes - and brings comic relief to the kid in everyone! As the catchy theme song celebrates: "...while Scooby is haunted by a spooky ghost, Dynomutt is doin' what he does most!" That means becoming a mechanical menace to the bad guys, faithfully assisting his action-hero comrade The Blue Falcon. Watch Scooby-Doo, Scooby-Dum (a dim-witted cousin first introduced here) & the Mystery Inc. crew and Dynomutt and the Blue Falcon whenever you feel like watching the dogs!

      DVD Features:
Featurette:Eerie Mystery of Scooby-Doo and Dynomutt?s History: A look at fascinating history of Scooby Doo as well as Dynomutt, dog wonder.
Interviews:IN THEIR OWN WORDS: The original Scooby Doo and Dynomutt voice actors share memories and voices from their days on these two popular shows.

Dinosaurs - The Complete Third and Fourth Seasons

Dinosaurs - The Complete Third and Fourth Seasons by Tom Trbovich from Buena Vista Home Entertainment

Families and civilizations are, on the most fundamental level, built on relationships. The third and fourth (final) seasons of the 1991 television series Dinosaurs delve deeply into the relationships between the individual members of the Sinclair dinosaur family while simultaneously tackling huge societal issues like sexism, rising medical costs, the negative influence of television and advertising, environmentalism and conservationism, and the modern relevance of faith and ritual to everyday life with fervency and an abundance of slapstick humor. Parents can't help but relate to the extreme characterization of Baby Sinclair as completely possessed by evil upon entering his "Terrible Twos" and will laugh hysterically at Baby's response to the ineffective "solutions" of Dr. Piaget, the babysitter, and his parents. Teenage rebellion and the angst of growing up are just as outrageously satirized in episodes like "The Son Also Rises" and "Charlene's Flat World" and Dinosaur writers poke fun at the debate about the effects of television and advertising on young children and society in virtually every episode. The complex issue of conservationism becomes all too personal to Earl in "If You Were a Tree" when he and a tree inadvertantly switch bodies and environmentalism becomes an intergalactic issue in "We Are Not Alone." Bonus features include seven never-before-seen-on-television episodes that deal with everything from the rituals of growing up to family bonding and the perils of materialism; optional audio commentary for the "Nature Calls" and "Into the Woods" episodes; a look at the incredibly funny, self-absorbed character of Baby with writer Kirk Thatcher, executive producer Brian Henson, and actor/puppeteer Kevin Clash; and a discussion about some of the causes behind the Dinosaurs series and how the program's format made it possible to address such far-reaching issues. Because Dinosaurs functions on dual levels, appealing both to children with its silly puppet antics and adults with its pointed social commentary, some parental guidance may be in order for children under 9 years. --Tami Horiuchi

They're huge. They re pre-hysterical. The Sinclairs are back in their final two seasons of Earth-shaking fun as they face the challenges of everyday life in sixty million and three BC. Baby turns two and into a total terror. Daddy Earl confronts his "diaperphobia." Charlene s theory that the world is round lands her in scholastic hot water. Robbie deals with overwhelming pubescent urges and in the final controversial episode the family s jumpin' Jurassic lifestyle gets the big chill. The brainosauraus of Jim Henson the award-winning comedy series brings state-of-the-art puppetry and audioanimatronics to the screen -- and a whole new meaning to the words "family fun." Add Seasons 3 and 4 to your collection of evolutionary entertainment and get ready to rock your funny bones.Bonus Feature(s):"I'm The Baby Gotta Love Me" Featurette -- Rock With The Baby To A Hot Jurassic Beat You Just Gotta LoveDINO Eggs -- Dig The Fun As You Excavate Buried Bonus Clips"Creatures With A Cause: The Issues Of DINOSAURS"Audio CommentariesRuntime: 670 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS Rating: G UPC: 786936727425 Manufacturer No: 05373200

        I'm Gonna Git You Sucka

I'm Gonna Git You Sucka from MGM (Video & DVD)

From Keenan Ivory Wayans, the man who brought us Jim Carrey (initially just one of the bunch on Wayans's television comedy-sketch show, In Living Color), comes I'm Gonna Git You Sucka (1988), a comedy spoof on the blaxploitation films of the 1970s. Wayans plays Jack Spade, an army private just returning from the service. He comes home to find his younger brother June Bug dead of a overdose of gold chains (an "O.G.") He vows revenge, and with the help of some of the neighborhood's old school heroes including Flyguy (Antonio Fargas), Kung Fu Joe (Steve James), Hammer (Isaac Hayes), Slammer (football star Jim Brown), and John Slade (Bernie Casey), Spade wages a war against Mr. Big, the neighborhood crime lord.

In the tradition of Airplane! and Naked Gun, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka pokes fun through satire and offensive comedy. The film also features some of the players that would end up on In Living Color and has appearances from such varied actors as Clarence Williams III, Eve Plumb (better known to most as Jan Brady), and Chris Rock as a rib-joint customer. --Shannon Gee

A hilarious Soul Cinema send-up, this ultra-slick, urban action comedy blows 70's blaxploitation movies right out of the 'hood! Featuring the very funny Wayans family (Keenen, Damon and Kim), Bernie Casey, Antonio Fargas, Isaac Hayes, Jim Brown, Ja'net DuBois, David Alan Grier, Kadeem Hardison and Chris Rock, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka is a perfect "mixture of nostalgia, silliness and genuinely unpredictable humor" (The New York Times). Jack Spade, a goody-goody war hero with medals for short-hand, returns to the ghetto to discover that his brother, Junebug, has OG'd (Over-Golded on jewelry). Jack swears revenge against the local gang boss, Mr. Big, and sets off to enlist an army of Shaft, Superfly and Black Caesarlook-a-likes, that is. They don't come easy, cheap or youngbut they do have nice clothes and enough firepower left in them to practically destroy Mr. Big's Big Brim Bar where the bad guys wearyou guessed itbig hats!

                Dr. Phibes Rises Again!

Dr. Phibes Rises Again! by Robert Fuest from MGM (Video & DVD)

The title says it all--the abominable Dr. Phibes is back and as ruthless as ever. No longer content with merely avenging his wife's death, Phibes is now bent on her resurrection. Phibes and his mute assistant, Vulnavia, set off for Egypt, meting out bizarrely elaborate deaths--everything from clockwork snakes to a particularly severe exfoliation treatment--to all who stand in their way. This time Phibes has two competitors to race against, the trusty Inspector Trout and the renowned archaeologist Biederbeck, who has his own reasons for chasing Phibes. Like its predecessor, Dr. Phibes Rises Again adds dark wit and imaginative art direction to the mix. Vincent Price is once again in high form, playing his organ with swooping arms and adding dry comic touches with a delicately cocked eyebrow. A worthy successor to the classic original. --Ali Davis

                  How I Got into College

How I Got into College by Savage Steve Holland from 20th Century Fox

This diverting (if very unrealistic) comedy focuses on the exploits of charmingly naive Marlon Browne (Corey Parker), a well-meaning but scholastically average high school student intent upon attending the same college as the girl of his dreams, his classmate Jessica Kailo (a young, perky Lara Flynn Boyle). To Marlon, Jessica seemingly has it all: looks, intelligence, and sophistication. His dilemma is that she is a far brighter student whose main choice, Ramsey College, seems hopelessly out of his reach, so the awkward but determined Marlon endeavors to get accepted there. But little does Marlon know that Jessica is also struggling with tremendous pressures of her own. Director Savage Steve Holland (Better Off Dead) exaggerates many sequences--including the college fair, college interview, and college acceptance scenes--to humorously portray the traumatic adolescent experience of applying to college. Taken as an '80s pop-culture time capsule, and disregarding its blatantly two-dimensional characterizations, How I Got Into College is fluffy fun; there is a genuine chemistry between Parker and Boyle. However, one has to wonder why the filmmakers are making the bizarre statement that it's ideal for Marlon to plan for this potential adolescent romance without any regard for his future. Among the film's notable cast appearances, Anthony Edwards (E.R.) plays Marlon's supportive and sympathetic liaison at Ramsey College, while Nora Dunn and Phil Hartman make goofy cameos as SAT/college-prep counselors who bilk students out of money by offering them transparent advice. --Bryan Reesman

Carefree class clown Marlon Browne (Corey Parker) is about to endure the most horrific experience of his young life - getting into college - in this hilarious screwball comedy. He'll undergo the shock of entrance exams¿the torture of meeting college recruiters¿and the painstaking process of chosing the right school. But before it's over, his world will be turned upside down by the girl he loves (Lara Flynn Boyle) and the two shady college prep tutors (Phil Hartman and Nora Dunn) who are milking him for all he's worth!
