Gospel According To Harry
by Lech Majewski
from KINO INTERNATIONAL
Combining the theatrical surrealism of Samuel Beckett and Eugene Ionesco, the pop-art playfulness of Richard Lester, scathing social critique, genuine pathos and the mind-boggling imagery for which writer-director Lech Majewski (The Garden of Earthly Delights) is renowned, Gospel According to Harry is a wholly original cinematic tour de force. Years before the Lord of the Rings trilogy catapulted him to international superstardom, Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises, A History of Violence) played Wes, a young husband locked in co-dependent discontent with his beautiful and needy wife Karen (Jennifer Rubin The Doors, Nightmare On Elm Street III). Their future prospects as barren as the sun-bleached dunes that are the surreal setting for their one room existence, Wes and Karen go through the dehumanizing motions of a modern life in which happiness is as ephemeral and elusive as the grains of sand beneath their feet. Boasting a remarkable cast, including 60 s British film icon Rita Tushingham (Doctor Zhivago, The Knack and How to Get It), haunting visuals, and incisive wit, Gospel According to Harry which was produced for David Lynch s Propaganda Films is at last ready for discovery, available here for the first time on DVD or any format.

Deal of a Lifetime
from MGM (Video & DVD)
Imagine Faust set in high school. Now imagine it inspired by the sex comedies of the '80s, and cast with actors who look like they're nearing their 10-year reunion. Kevin Pollack stars as the Mephistopheles-inspired Jerry, the guy in charge of buying souls for Satan. His latest victim is high school nerd Henry Spooner (Michael A. Goorjian) after the kid mutters under his breath how he would sell his soul to the devil in order to go out with the prettiest popular girl in the school, Lori Petler (Shiri Appleby). Henry is happy enough to use the powers of evil to become popular until he realizes it's testing his relationship with his best friend. Plus, he starts to believe he's becoming popular by himself, not because of the manipulations of the devil. Deal of a Lifetime is not a great movie, but Kevin Pollack fans will want to check it out because he's given free reign to ham it up big-time and make a lot of costume changes. --Andy Spletzer
Henry Spooner would sell his soul for a date with the most popular girl in school and now he finally has the chance! Starring Kevin Pollak (The Usual Suspects) and fresh new talents Shiri Appleby ("Roswell"), Jennifer Rubin (The Crush) and Michael Goorjian (Leaving Las Vegas), Deal of a Lifetime is a "hell-arious" romantic comedy! Unpopular, un-cool and totally un-datable, Henry (Goorjian) doesn't have a hell of a chance with super-hot cheerleader Laurie Petler (Appleby) or does he? Tempted by the Devil's sleaze-ball agent (Pollak), Henry soon gets his hands on fame, fortune and Laurie. But just as his every wish begins to come true, Henry has the hilarious realization that, when it comes to a deal with the Devil, getting everything he ever wanted mayjust be a whole lot more trouble than he bargained for!
