The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (Full Screen Edition)
by Ken Kwapis
from Warner Home Video
Who would expect a gimmick like a pair of magical pants to be the hook for such a smart, charming, and emotionally rich teen movie? Four close friends discover a pair of pants that fit them all perfectly, even though they're physically very different. Since all four are going in different directions for the summer, they pledge to each wear the pants for a week and then mail them to the next girl. In Greece, Lena (Alexis Bledel, Gilmore Girls) lands in the middle of a Romeo & Juliet family-feud romance; Carmen (America Ferrera, Real Women Have Curves) discovers that her estranged father is about to marry a blonde Southern belle; Bridget (newcomer Blake Lively) flirts with love at a Mexican soccer camp; and Tibby (Amber Tamblyn, Joan of Arcadia) stays home and gets a boring retail job to pay for her documentary film--but finds herself with an unwanted young assistant (Jenna Boyd, The Missing). These four stories manage to cover an amazing amount of ground (touching on race, body issues, divorce, mortality, and more) without resorting to stereotypes or easy resolutions. The engaging characters are brought to vivid life by these four talented actresses, who grab this excellent script and run with it. One of the best movies about teenage life in a long, long time. --Bret Fetzer

License to Wed
by Ken Kwapis
from Warner Home Video
Newly engaged Ben Murphy (John Krasinski) and Sadie Jones (Mandy Moore) can't wait to start their life together and live happily ever after. The problem is that Sadie's family church St. Augustine's is run by Reverend Frank (Robin Williams) who won't bless Ben and Sadie's union until they pass his patented "foolproof" marriage-prep course. Consisting of outrageous classes outlandish homework assignments and some outright invasion of privacy Reverend Frank's rigorous curriculum puts Ben and Sadie's relationship to the test. Forget happily ever after--do they even have what it takes to make it to the altar? Also available in HD format.Running Time: 91 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: COMEDY/ROMANTIC COMEDY UPC: 085391160694 Manufacturer No: 1000025306
Marriage is a huge step in any relationship and, with the divorce rate skyrocketing, some clergymen find it advisable to council prospective couples prior to the marriage ceremony. Reverend Frank (Robin Williams) takes his marriage preparation course to a whole new level, putting couples through a very unusual and grueling set of classes that cover everything from trust and communication to experiencing childbirth, meeting each other's needs in and out of bed, and group sessions on how to fight fairly. Happy couple Sadie Jones's (Mandy Moore) and Ben Murphy's (John Krasinski) perfect compatibility is tested to the limits with extraordinary (and hysterical) assignments like caring for twin baby robots that cry and poop without restraint while baby-sitting a friend's two young children and shopping for wedding china. Driving a car blindfolded while one's intended gives directions is no simple task either, but abstinence from sex and writing their own marriage vows may be the couple's most difficult homework assignments. Comedy reigns throughout the entire movie thanks to Robin Williams, his choir-boy assistant Josh Flitter (Nancy Drew) and the rest of the cast and laughing out loud is definitely a course requirement for viewers, but underneath the hilarity is a serious message about making marriage work. --Tami Horiuchi

Sesame Street Presents - Follow that Bird
by Ken Kwapis
from Warner Home Video
Follow That Bird is as much a journey through time as it is a romp past the Sesame Street stop sign. Curiously, the cast members--live ones like Gordon and Maria, not just the Muppets--have the timeless look to them. Only the cameos (by Sandra Bernhard, John Candy, and others) plus a few ill-conceived hairdos clue us in that this feature film was made in 1985. Otherwise, it's all sophisticated Sesame humor and bighearted fun here as Oscar, the Count, and crew set off to rescue Big Bird, who's on the lam from a family of adoptive dodos. Only one conceivable complaint: The latter crop of Street viewers may miss Elmo, who hadn't been created when Bird first flew into theaters. --Tammy La Gorce
Big Bird decides to go home to Sesame Street when he finds out that his foster home with the Dodo's is no fun. All his friends set out to find him when they think he is lost.

The Beautician and the Beast
by Ken Kwapis
from Paramount
Beauty-school teacher Fran Drescher, basically reprising her television role in The Nanny, is whisked out of Queens and deposited in Eastern Europe after she is mistaken for a science teacher. Timothy Dalton is the gruff and stilted president for life she tames with mousse and kindness. Drescher, with that inimitable voice and colorful clothing, is very funny. It is not a far stretch to compare her favorably with Lucille Ball. The script, however, matches her bubbly humor with nothing but clunkiness. A mild diversion, this is one of many Hollywood comedies that works just fine on video. --Rochelle O'Gorman
Dunston Checks In
by Ken Kwapis
from 20th Century Fox
High society gets a dose of monkey business in this family-friendly bit of simian slapstick. Less foul and more fun than Clyde from the Clint Eastwood comedies, Dunston is the practical-joking orangutan partner of foppish jewel thief Rupert Everett. Making his escape in a five-star New York hotel, Dunston lands in the protective care of 10-year-old Eric Lloyd, the high-spirited son of harried hotel manager Jason Alexander, and together they turn the snooty social event of the year into a zoo. Faye Dunaway is Alexander's overbearing boss just aching for a comic comeuppance, and Paul "Pee-wee Herman" Reubens dons a mauve tuxedo as Buck La Farge, animal-control specialist. Would you believe the monkey upstages them all? Though hardly the smartest comedy around, this is a cute, cuddly little barrel full of monkeyshines just made for the younger crowd. Rated PG for one (yelled) word. --Sean Axmaker
A 5-star hotel turns into a 3-ring circus when an orangutan named Duston checks in. Jason Alexander ("Seinfeld"), Faye Dunaway ("Network") and Eric Lloyd ("The Santa Clause") star in this hilarious romp about an orangutan who gets loose in the elegant Majestic Hotel on the eve of the social event of the season. Dodging his jewel-thieving owner and the frantic hotel manager, Dunston is befriended by the manager's ten-year old son, Kyle, who is determined to help his new friend escape. Filled with laughter and comic high-jinks, DUNSTON CHECKS IN is "a steady stream of giggles for those who get a kick out of monkey business." (Henry Sheehan, Orange County Register).

Sexual Life
by Ken Kwapis
from Showtime Ent.
Inspired by Arthur Schnitzler's play "La Ronde", this ensemble drama follows the sexual dynamics of eight different characters whose lives intersect through their shared partners, revealing their fears, hopes, heartbreaks, lies, secrets and the brutal truths behind closed doors. By constantly underlining the power of sex, the film manages to leave us with sympathy and compassion for those who simply cannot resist the force. Anne Heche, Elizabeth Banks, Kerry Washington, Tom Everett Scott, Azura Skye, Eion Bailey, Dule Hill, Carla Gallo and James Le Gros all star in this contemporary treatment of a timeless topic. And Director Ken Kwapis (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) ensures that this carnal comedy of manners never misses a beat.
