The Even Stevens Movie

Capitalizing on the popularity of the Disney Channel's long-running series Even Stevens, The Even Stevens Movie follows the Stevens family in a rare moment of good fortune. Seems they've won a dream vacation to the tropics, but even a free vacation isn't always a dream. There's the usual bumbling by Louis (Shia LeBeouf), but also the family seems to be getting split up and turned against each other. Sure enough, the Stevens family is actually the unsuspecting victim on a reality show called Family Fakeout, and everyone back home in Sacramento is watching every minute of their frustration and misery. Worst of all, Ren (Christy Carlson Romano) seems to have finally met a nice boy, unaware that he's just an actor hired to romance her. The Even Stevens Movie is typically lightweight Disney Channel fare, but it should entertain fans of the series and provides a good showcase for its two young stars, LeBeouf and Romano. --David Horiuchi

Race to Space

If you're not a sucker for fact-based stories involving ostracized little boys, struggling single dads, precocious chimps, or space exploration, switch on Race to Space. James Woods stars as the 1960s rocket scientist the U.S. is counting on in its race to catch up with the space-savvy Russians; because he's German, a cluster of corrupt politicians cooks up a plan to sabotage his launch, which would send Mac, the chimp who's become his misfit son's special buddy, into space. Race feels formulaic from the liftoff, but the winch tightening translates to the family room without turning wimpy. Once the movie reaches its final frontier, all reservations have been scrubbed. It's one small step for movie-making kind, one giant leap for family entertainment. --Tammy La Gorce

That's So Raven - Supernaturally Stylish

Like a cross between Moesha and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, That's So Raven centers around a typical teen... with a secret. Raven (former Cosby kid Raven-Symoné) is a high-spirited high school girl who can see the future. In the popular Disney Channel comedy, she's joined by friends Chelsea (Anneliese van der Pol) and Eddie (Orlando Brown), parents Tonya (T'Keyah Crystal Keymáh) and Victor (Rondell Sheridan), and younger brother Corey (Kyle Massey). Drawn from the first two seasons, Supernaturally Stylish features three episodes: "That's So Not Raven," "If I Only Had a Job," and "He's Got the Power." In the latter, Eddie develops psychic abilities after a comet passes over the city. Along the way, he gets the girl--Haylie Duff, sister of Lizzie McGuire's Hilary--then just as promptly loses her when his powers desert him. 3 Ninjas - High Noon on Mega Mountain

An evil gang takes over an amusement park only to be foiled by three Ninja-trained brothers and a TV action star in this smartly paced (if by-the- numbers) kiddie action flick. Medusa (Loni Anderson) and Lothar (Jim Varney) head up the gang with ransom money and mayhem on their minds. But they don't count on the young Caucasian trio, taught by their inexplicably Asian grandfather, and Dave Dragon (Hulk Hogan), making a live appearance at the park. What follows is campy humor, lots of Karate-esque action and plenty of Home Alone-type boy vs. foolish bad guy high jinks. And girls aren't left out: the brothers' neighbor, a brainy techno girl, is on hand to hack into the computer to override the gang's murderous plans, while also providing 007-style gadgets for hand-to-hand combat. While there is plenty of gunplay in the 90- minute film, no one is killed or even significantly hurt, making it appropriate for ages 5 and older. --Kimberly Heinrichs

That's So Raven - Disguise the Limit
