Based on a manga by Naoko Takeuchi, Sailor Moon is the story of a teenage girl who meets a magical cat who gives her super powers. She becomes the leader of a team of brave girls, known as the Sailor Warriors. Sailor Moon has long been justifiably renowned for the strength of its plot, its direct and honest treatment of romance and, in this uncut version, a realistic and unflinching acceptance of death as a necessary possible consequence of a righteous fight.

The adventure of the magic heart crystals comes to its rather protracted conclusion as the villains multiply. Aided by the Outer Scouts and Tuxedo Moon, Sailor Scouts Serena, Amy, Raye, Lita, and Mina (Usagi, Ami, Rei, Makoto, and Minako in Japanese) take on new members of Witches 5, who work for Dr. Tomoe, who is trying to resurrect the Messiah of Silence, who serves Pharaoh 90 of the Tau Nebula. Further complications arise, as the evil Messiah has taken over the body of Hotaru, the friend of Serena's future daughter Chibiusa. Although the Scouts eventually defeat the forces of evil, Michiru and Haruka, Sailors Neptune and Uranus reproach Serena for risking the entire Earth to save Hotaru but eventually concede the rightness of her position. The many plots and battles don't allow the filmmakers much time for comedy or character interaction. Rated 13 Up: Violence and brief nudity. --Charles Solomon
Sailor Neptune, Uranus and Pluto will do anything they can to prevent the awakening of the Messiah of Silence slumbering within Hotaru. However, theDeath Busters kidnap Chibi-Usa and use her heart crystal's energy to revive the Messiah! Even though the Sailor Soilders fight valiantly, Sailor Moon loses the Holy Grail to the Messiah of Silence and the outlook becomes dismal. Where is the legendary Messiah when we need her?

High school entrance exams are approaching, and Serena and her friends Amy, Raye, Lita, and Mina (Usagi, Ami, Rei, Makoto, and Minako in Japanese) need to study--especially Serena, whose grades have never been good. But Serena is easily distracted. When Haruka appears on the scene, she and the other Scouts immediately fall for him--only to discover "he" is a girl who often dresses as a boy. Haruka is almost always seen with Michiru, but there's nothing to the relationship. Serena is also busy leading the Sailor Scouts into the battle. The evil Professor Tomoe and his assistant Kaorinite keep unleashing shape-shifting daimons to steal the crystalline hearts of the pure, which will enable them to rule the world. The Scouts and Tuxedo Moon need the help of Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus to defeat the evil doers. These powerful, aloof warriors are searching the world for three mysterious and potent talismans. The combined power of Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Moon produces the redoubtable weapon, the "Spiral Heart Moon Rod." Many fans rank the Sailor Moon "S" season (the third), which comprises episodes 90 to 127, as the best in the series. More cynical viewers may notice that reused footage makes up about one-third of each episode. Edited versions of these episodes played on the Cartoon Network (and are available on VHS). These uncut episodes are rated 13 and older for violence and brief nudity. --Charles Solomon
Sailor Moon SuperS - Pegasus Collection 6
by Junichi Sato
from Geneon [Pioneer]
After 30 episodes, the continuity in the popular "magical girl" series begins building to its climax with a series of revelations. Pegasus is Helios, the Priest of Elysian, the Kingdom of Dreams; his horn is the magic Golden Crystal that could enable the sinister Queen Nehelenia of the New Moon to plunge the universe into darkness. When Nehelenia discovers that Rini/Chibiusa possesses the long-sought Mirror of Beautiful Dreams where Pegasus is hidden, she captures the mini-Princess. Darien/Mamoru's body has synchronized with the Earth, so Nehelenia's real and figurative webs of evil cause him pain. In between revelations, the filmmakers pause for humorous interludes. All the Sailor Scouts mistake Rini/Chibiusa's fascination with Pegasus for a crush on an older boy, and in one singularly odd sequence, Pallapalla turns Rini/Chibiusa into an adult and Serena/Usagi into a child. (Rated 13 and older: violence, grotesque imagery, brief nudity) --Charles Solomon
