Libertarias

Spain, July 19, 1936. The War has just begun and women as always play their part in this human tragedy. Maria, an innocent young nun, is forced to leave the convent after the arrival of the revolutionary troops in Barcelona. She takes refuge in a brothel, where she meets a group of "Libertarias", who are being "drafted" for the "Free Women" organization under the leadership of Pilar (Ana Belen) a pure feminist warrior, passionate and fiery. Alongside, Charo (Loles Leon) the hooker with the heart of gold and Floren (Victoria Abril) a spiritualist, Maria joins in. Within the brutal realities of war, Maria experiences love with an unexpected character and companionship through those she is fighting with. Libertarias is an epic of six women fight for freedom, their struggle for justice amid their passionate cry for a better world. One of Spain's best known directors, Vicente Aranda, Winner at the Tokyo International Film Festival, has made 17 previous films including the internationally acclaimed "Amantes".

In Praise of Older Women (En brazos de la mujer madura)

ANDRÉS is an adolescent forced into manhood by two important events; the Spanish Civil war, which separates him from his mother and takes him to the front in search of her, and a very elegant roll in the hay with a charming and highly seductive COUNTESS (Faye Dunaway), shortly after his arrival there. Thus begins Andrés own personal battle with the female sex, a battle which will last far longer than the military hostilities between Republicans (with whom Andres fights) and Fascist which tear him apart from his mother only to throw him into the arms of a series of mature lovers who between them will guide him through the minefield and adult life. Andrés is given a chance to follow up on his erotic and sentimental adventure with the Countess when his Sergeant sends him home from the trenches, the execution of two prisoners being too much for the young man to bear. Having no home to go to, however, Andrés is sent to the Sergeant's house in Barcelona where JULIA (Ingrid Rubio), the Sergeant's stunning daughter, will carry out her very own kind of blitzkrieg on Andrés' senses.

En Brazos de la Mujer Madura

ANDRES (Miguel Ángel García y Juan Diego Botto) tiene quince años cuando estalla la guerra civil española. Abandonado a su suerte, decide partir en busca de su madre Irene al otro lado de las líneas enemigas. Por el camino, es interceptado por una patrulla de milicianos y acogido bajo la protección del Comandante Peciña, el líder anarquista Davalos y el cocinero Honorio, La imprevista llegada al campamento de una atractiva aristócrata inglesa, LA CONDESA (Faye Dunaway), precipita el despertar erótico del muchacho. A partir de ese momento, en los años que preceden y suceden al final del conflicto bélico, Andrés va conociendo a las mujeres que marcan su educación sentimental: Una joven adolescente una prostituta, una preciosa obrera, la intelectual Marta (Joanna Pacula) y la violinista italiana Bobi (Florence Pernel). Gracias a ellas, irá adquiriendo la madurez y la confianza necesarias para tomar las riendas de su vida.
