Organizing from the Inside Out with Julie Morgenstern
by Pete Lentine
from Pbs Home Video
Bestselling author Julie Morgenstern has a fresh perspective on why clutter and disorganization exist and offers specific instructions on how to permanently organize your house or office in this fast-paced world. Morgenstern begins by defining "organized," asserting that it is not necessarily neatness, but the "process by which we create environments that allow us to live, work, and relax exactly as we want to." Without a compelling reason or goal for achieving organization, she declares, failure is imminent. Once a personal goal is established, Morgenstern outlines three basic steps: analyze, strategize, and attack. The time and thought devoted to the first two steps are crucial to the success of the final step, and the lack of forethought is often why people fail repeatedly in their attempts at organization. Morgenstern suggests some very specific questions for creating a successful, personalized scheme and offers the kindergarten classroom as an example of simple and effective organization.
Once the analyzing and strategizing steps are completed, Morgenstern breaks the "attack" phase into five specific, manageable steps. Following a woman named Wendy through a step-by-step organization of her very messy closet is an invaluable visual example of the entire process. Included on this 75-minute video is a 13-minute segment not shown on public TV, called "Secrets of a Professional Organizer," in which Morgenstern offers suggestions on a variety of topics, including living with a messy person, stretching closet space, travel packing, and keeping motivated. With its thought-provoking questions and specific instructions, this video simplifies the process of organization and increases the likelihood of success--it's well worth the time and money invested. --Tami Horiuchi

Homeowner Series Vol. 1, Identifying Problems throughout your home, a Home Inspection DVD resource
by Christopher Bacalski
from New City Studios
This informative DVD is wonderful because it shows you, the homeowner, how to walk through your home, or properties, and find damaged areas without spending needless thousands. This resource is perfect for anyone planning on buying a new house, or just wanting to find problems in their own home! Just think about the money you will save not having to consult someone else every time a question comes up. Unlike other movies and books that only describe the problem, Identifying Problems actually shows you first hand what these damaged spots really look like. There is footage taken from over 100 different homes!
Don't be confused, Identifying Problems is not meant to replace a Contractor or Home Inspector's walk-through, but it is here to enable you to ask the right questions and to know what to bring to their attention.
Identifying Problems is made for the sole purpose of teaching homeowners how to find hidden problems in their home that they are unaware of, and therefore neglecting. Instead of being totally clueless in most aspects of a home, Identifying Problems gives you a visual checklist of everything to look for. This way, you are already pretty sure about a property or a problem before you spend time and money having a professional come and take a look.
Identifying Problems is a must have for homeowners, future homeowners, and property owners! Get yours today!
Changing Rooms - Trust Me, I'm a Designer
by Heather Darroch
from BBC Video
"Trust me... I'm a designer!" Many neighbors did... and regretted it. Others had their doubts but were delighted. It's all here: the highs the lows the tears and the tantrums that make up the best of Changing Rooms hosted by Carol Smillie with personal insights from some of your favorite designers.Running Time: 130 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS UPC: 794051175427
The title is a quote from star Laurence "the Cuffs" Llewelyn-Bowen himself, and Changing Rooms: Trust Me, I'm a Designer is a "best of" compilation, celebrating more than 100 editions of the popular BBC home makeover show. Although it might imply that the focus is on the designers themselves, despite their larger-than-life personalities what comes through most strongly here is the practicality of actually getting the work done. The question whether anyone other than the designers themselves actually likes the results is as cheerfully up-in-the-air as ever, of course. This compilation scores highly--perhaps higher than the show itself for anyone who's not a fan--because, with so many episodes to choose from and with the opportunity to use some snappy editing, we're spared all the finger-drumming, pacing up and down, and general waffling about, which inevitably takes up a certain amount of time in any individual edition. Instead, we move neatly and quickly between ideas, discussions, and practical considerations in a very un-boring fashion. Of course, there's plenty of fun along the way, such as the absolutely priceless moment when Llewelyn-Bowen nearly convinces "Handy" Andy Kane that he has to board over a swimming pool and create two rooms from the resulting space using only the inevitable MDF (medium-density fiberboard). It's instructive, great fun, and a very neat package of material. --Roger Thomas
