Rob & Big - The Complete Seasons 1 & 2 (Uncensored)

Rob & Big - The Complete Seasons 1 & 2 (Uncensored) by Mark S. Jacobs from Paramount / MTV

Less asinine than Jackass and more "real" than The Hills, MTV's reality series Rob & Big is an entertaining diversion that mixes friendship and a few crazy stunts into each episode. In this four-disc box set, all 16 episodes from the first two seasons of the show are included. Rob Dyrdek may not be the most famous skateboarder out there, but he is charismatic, funny, and apparently has the means to charter a private jet so he can fly off to pick up his new puppy Meaty. Christopher "Big Black" Boykin is Rob's best friend and bodyguard. Boykin's size often is used as a visual gag, but he's rarely presented in a mean-spirited fashion. Even when he's showing off his girth in a G-string (don't ask), he's clearly in on the joke. The show is built around the odd couple premise of the long-time friends. But like Snoop Dogg's Father Hood, the episodes' most enjoyable elements aren't the crazy antics, but the everyday slices of life that the characters experience. Watching Dyrdek return home to the Midwest where his family clearly misses him is rather touching. And seeing Boykin's relatives prepare for a family reunion is a lot of fun. There are some episodes that obviously are set up for the cameras: Would the pals actually have purchased a time machine if they weren't being filmed to do so? And would anyone really buy a minature horse to keep their dog company (or listen to a dog psychic that tells them they need a woman in the house)? Clearly, no. But the point is that the duo has a show and knows how to entertain its audience. And instead of focusing on contrived romances or feuds with frenemies, this reality series focuses on friendship. There's also an added dose of reality when the stars of the show aren't always treated as such. The look on Dyrdek's face when he's described in a newspaper as a "C-lister" is priceless not because it's true, but because he understands his role in the Hollywood food chain. --Jae-Ha Kim

In the first two seasons of this reality buddy comedy from MTV and Jeff Tremaine of Jackass fame, professional street skater Rob Dyrdek and his best friend and bodyguard, Christopher "Big Black" Boykin, share a house in the Hollywood Hills, bouncing from one ridiculous moment to the next. Along with their mischievous little Bulldog, Meat Bag, aka "Meaty" and their Mini Horse, the unlikely crew make the world their playground and hit the streets on a constant quest for adventure and laughs. On this uncensored DVD, see even more from TV's favorite new odd couple. With all 16 episodes, a ton of bonus scenes and way more Rob and Big than we were allowed to show on TV, this DVD is a must have for anyone who simply can't get enough of this series.

The Hills - The Complete Second Season

The Hills - The Complete Second Season from MTV / Paramount

With a year in Los Angeles under their belts in Season 2 of "The Hills" Lauren Conrad and her friends Heidi Audrina and Whitney learn that being young women in the big city isn't as easy as they thought. This year when new boys force them to make tough choices Lauren and the girls are about to find out that not even friendships can be taken for granted.System Requirements:Running Time: 247 Mins.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS Rating: NR UPC: 097368521148 Manufacturer No: 852114

When the debut season of The Hills ended, Lauren had passed up the opportunity to work in Paris for the summer to live in a beach house with her vaguely Neanderthal-ish boyfriend Jason. Flash forward to the second season of MTV's hit reality series--which aired from January through April 2007. Lauren and Jason break up, and you can see the wistfulness in her eyes as her friend Whitney (who got the Paris gig after Lauren turned it down) talks about what an amazing summer she had. Though the conceit of this Laguna Beach spin-off was to have Lauren at its core, her friends are as instrumental to the drama as she is. There's Audrina, whom roomies Lauren and Heidi ostracize for no other reason than they can. As for Heidi, Lauren's supposed best friend, she cares more about fame and men than her friends. As entertaining as this 3-disc, 12-episode set is, this series also reveals the worst caricatures about mean girls and young women. They will gossip about whoever isn't around and will lie to their friends, apparently oblivious to the fact that they will be caught in their lies when the show airs on TV. And sadly, these girls fault each other--rather than their cheating men--for their tumultuous relationships.

If Lauren is the determined and good rich girl, Heidi is the manipulative bad seed. She scares a boyfriend into thinking she's pregnant to test how much he loves her and then maintains her innocence when he gets angry at her deception. She lies to Lauren about what another girl said. There are times you may empathize with her, but those few moments are negated by her stupidity when it comes to her slimy boyfriend Spencer, whose claim to fame is hanging around any place (and any one) where there is a camera crew. He even sets up Lauren with his one-dimensional friend Brody (son of Olympian Bruce Jenner) to ensure that he's assured of even more camera time. Spencer guilts Heidi into doing what he wants, but she is guilty of lacking a spine when it comes to standing up to him. Spencer actually is an honorary mean girl, cattier and more jealous than any of the women on the show. Last season's finale left viewers wondering whether Lauren would work towards her future and go to Paris, or remain in the past and live with Jason. The second year ends with another life-altering decision--this time for Heidi. Will she move in with Spencer, whom she has already told that she is too young to make such a commitment, or will she remain as Lauren's roomie and BFF? There is a champagne toast and pizza celebration for a pair of roommates in the final episode that will make most fans of the show very pleased. --Jae-Ha Kim

The Hills - The Complete First Season

The Hills - The Complete First Season from Paramount / MTV

Laguna Beach s Lauren (LC) Conrad is all grown up and it s time for her to leave the bubble and make a life of her own. Follow Lauren to LA as she attempts to balance a demanding internship at Teen Vogue and a full course load with a demanding nightlife and a full social calendar. But at least she won t have to do it alone. Along the way she meets several friends who expose her to a different part of the city each chasing their own dreams. The Hills tells the story of four young women on their own for the first time and the fun laughter and drama that they all share. System Requirements:Run Time: 540 minsFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS Rating: NR UPC: 097368012240 Manufacturer No: 801224

Fans of Laguna Beach will love the first season of The Hills, which follows Laguna's Lauren Conrad as she attends fashion school in Los Angeles and works as an intern at Teen Vogue magazine. OK, so that's the premise for this quasi-reality MTV series. But in reality, the show is an excuse to watch pretty young people make out, break up, get back together, and break up some more. The show has more in common with a daytime drama than a documentary; none of the subjects worries too much about paying rent for their glamorous apartments or designer clothes. But when it comes to dating, the Geneva Convention could learn a thing or two about negotiating from these gals. Lauren fans may be dismayed to learn that Jason, the monosyllabic Lothario who cheated on her in the second season of Laguna Beach is back. And instead of going on dates with the thousands of young men who would love to have a pretty blonde on their arms (and get the opportunity to appear on TV to boot!), Lauren allows Jason to get back into her good graces--even though he hasn't matured since high school. Or figured out how to treat a woman. Or learned how to talk better. It's actually heartbreaking watching her struggle with a relationship that we can all see is doomed. Or is it?

The season finale ends with the kind of dilemma we all wish we could've faced when we were 19 or 20: spend the summer working in Paris or move into a beach house with your boyfriend and frolic on the beach for three months. Paris? Jason? Hmmmm. You'd think that'd be a no-brainer. Also on hand to offer support are Lauren's friends Heidi and Audrina. The cast always looks chic and freshly made up (even after getting out of bed) and the cameras somehow always manage to be in the right place to capture romantic moments (and drama). It's easy to make fun of this show because of the preposterous setup that this sun-kissed life is reality for a group of kids who don't seem to have to work that hard for their privileged lives. But therein lies the guilty pleasure. We know it's a fantasy created by MTV. And while we would kill for the rocking apartments, cars, and clothes, there is no way most of us would endure being publicly humiliated to get 15 minutes of fame. --Jae-Ha Kim

Noah's Arc - The Complete Second Season

Noah's Arc - The Complete Second Season by Patrik-Ian Polk from MTV

If you're in the mood to watch sassy commentary, hardcore melodrama, and extreme dating, Noah's Arc will satisfy. Eight juicy episodes comprise The Complete Second Season. A heightened sense of action in the linked narratives, not only in the sexual sense, taps in to the old-school soap opera model, leaving the viewer jonesing to find out what will happen next. Stories center around five tight-knit buddies, Noah, Chance, Alex, Ricky, and Trey, but so many boyfriends come and go that it's tricky to even keep up with who's who in this handsome world. The men take everything, including themselves, way too seriously, but that's part of the fun. Most notably in The Second Season, Noah's ex, Wade, hovers in the background as Noah attempts to fall in love with gentlemanly Malik in "Housequake," the rapper Baby Gat in "Give It Up," and with politically astute Quincy in episodes six and seven. Dating galore amongst all the men leaves the viewer reeling, but each episode also tackles more serious issues in the gay community, like when Noah gets brutally beaten in "Baby, Can I Hold You?" or when Ricky braves dating an HIV-positive beau. Humor levels stay high with queen Alex's undying flair, while college professor, Chance, and his boyfriend, Eddie, hold down the fort in a more understated way. Corny, dramatic, funny, ridiculous, and touching all at once, this second season of Noah's Arc contains enough surprise to keep viewers riveted until the last microsecond of the season's finale. —Trinie Dalton

Navigating life and love in L.A. isn't easy, and no one knows that better than Noah and his friends - Alex, Ricky & Chance. LOGO's ground-breaking, one-of-a-kind series Noah's Arc follows all four as they chart an uncertain course through the City of Angels, where laughter and drama are never in short supply.

Beavis and Butt-head - The Mike Judge Collection, Vol. 3

Beavis and Butt-head - The Mike Judge Collection, Vol. 3 from Paramount / MTV

Just call it Beavis and Butt-Head: Revenge of the Twerps. In creator Mike Judge's third and final collection, the demonic duo takes out their pent-up aggression on some of their favorite targets. In "P.T.A." they get surly Mr. Buzzcut fired, In "Shopping List," they blow Mr. Anderson's grocery money on junk food, and in "Take a Lap," they destroy Stewart's kitchen. Ultimately though, they're their own worst enemies as when Butt-Head tries to get Beavis fired from Burger World ("In Service"), when he smacks Beavis in the face ("Nose Bleed"), and when they pierce each other's ears ("Pierced"). Judge plucked most of these 42 shorts from seasons six and seven. Standout episodes include the black and white "Leave It to Beavis" and "A Great Day," in which everything goes right for B&B: school is closed, they find a dead bird, and a murderer gives them hush money. Another high point is the two-part "A Beavis and Butt-Head Christmas," which takes on both It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol. As with previous sets, this box includes the original promos, such as "Beavis tries the new morning after pill--ands it works!" and "Next: foreman Beavis breaks the jury's deadlock with an impassioned speech...impediment. Stay tuned." Other extras include the uncut version of 1992's "Frog Baseball," part three of the documentary Taint of Greatness: The Journey of Beavis and Butt-Head, and 15 videos with commentary. The best is surely Poison's ridiculously glam-tastic "I Want Action." Beavis and the brown-haired guy may have had a thing for the likes of AC/DC and Metallica--hair metal was another matter. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Heroes. Villains. Visionaries. Butt-munches. Beavis & Butt-Head have been called a lot of things. Smart isn't usually one of them, but groundbreaking is. In this third installment of the earth-shattering Mike Judge Collection, the boys are back with more of their wisecracking, fart-knockingly-genius ways. Whether they make your stomach hurt from laughing, or because you have to, you know…one thing is for sure, Beavis & Butt-Head changed comedy and animation forever.

Daria - Is It Fall Yet?

Daria - Is It Fall Yet? by Karen Disher from MTV

Populated by a variety of memorable characters, Daria: Is It Fall Yet? packs more intelligent humor into 75 minutes than most sitcoms manage in a full season. With its diva of the disaffected in the title role, MTV's animated series moved into Ghost World territory with this enlightening look at summer vacation, beginning with Daria's dilemma about dating her best friend Jane's ex-boyfriend. Jane's tolerating pretentious bohemians at an artists' retreat, and while Daria's playing "prison guard" at a touchy-feely summer camp, her fashion-drone sister Quinn is getting tutored to compensate for dismal PSAT scores. The razor-sharp script uses Daria's ultra-dry wit and too-cool irony (at times excessive) to skewer everything from upper-crust snobbery to the hazards of adolescent romance. It turns out Daria's outer shell protects a likable adult-in-the-making as she learns lessons that feed her heart as well as her head. --Jeff Shannon

Noah's Arc - The Complete First Season by Patrik-Ian Polk from MTV

Navigating life and love in L.A. isn't easy and no one knows that better than Noah and his friends-Alex Ricky and Chance. Noah's Arc follows all four as they chart an uncertain course through the City of Angels where laughter and drama are never in short supply.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS Rating: NR UPC: 097368502543 Manufacturer No: 850254

What if Sex and the City met Queer as Folk and The L Word--with an all-male, all-black, all-gay cast? Noah's Arc, the winsome Logo Channel series about the dating and sexual adventures of sweet, naive Noah, a would-be screenwriter, and his pals in pumped-up L.A., is just as sweetly addictive as those shows. And it's all the more ground-breaking because nearly the entire cast is African American--stellar actors all. At the center of the circle is Noah (Darryl Stephens), the soft-spoken Carrie/Charlotte character; surrounding him are Chance, Alex, and Ricky, who are pretty much all Samanthas, which can up the sex patter to a fever pitch. Noah struggles as a screenwriter, and struggles in his dating life, at one point becoming wildly attracted to a successful film writer named Wade ("What kind of name is that?!" screeches one pal; Noah replies, "His momma was in the choir and her favorite song was 'Wade in the Water!'"). Turns out even gay guys can have rusty gaydar; Noah--and we--can't tell if Wade's attracted to him or not. The cast rallies 'round one another for adventures like this, and others, great and small, and that's what begins to make it compulsively watchable, whether you're single, gay, or of color or not. Seeing L.A. through Noah's friends' prisms is just as fun; it's a pretty and sculpted eye-candyland. The boxed set includes nine episodes and a fantastic disc of extras, including deleted scenes, auditions, the pilot and commentary featuring the cast and creator, showing the camaraderie we see on the screen was shared on the set too. Laguna Beach - The Complete First Season

Laguna Beach - The Complete First Season from Paramount / MTV

Branded as "The real Orange County," this tepid yet easily addictive MTV series follows a group of wealthy high schoolers from Laguna Beach, California. Their lives are almost too perfect to be real: good looks, houses by the beach, even close relationships with their parents. They shop, plan parties, and get brand-new cars wrapped in a bow for graduation (and you thought that only happened in commercials!). But it's a reality show packaged as a teen soap.

At the center of season 1 is the love triangle between good-girl narrator LC, her childhood friend Stephen, and his beautiful but cold girlfriend Kristin, who likes to mention at any chance possible how much she "hates" LC. Other highlights for the seniors include spring break in Cabo, birthday bashes, one character's embarrassing audition for a Broadway show, and the repetitive mantra of "Can you believe this is the last time we'll be together like this?"

One's envy of young rich kids who are just like you--but not--is certainly what Laguna Beach likes to tap into (you find out they even have weekly O.C. viewing parties!). Unfortunately, it's also what makes it so vanilla. Since there aren't producers auditioning the most colorful personalities to home-grow drama, you're left with pals so alike you get them confused. Not only that, their "conflicts"--limited to gossip and drunk confrontations--don't really make for great television, at least by the reality-TV standards we're used to. But kids who thrive on the gossip of their own friends will likely continue chatting about this show like it's their own high school.

DVD features include an MTV cribs-type tour of LC's massive mansion (still being built in season 1) and many deleted scenes, which include the technical glitch that got Morgan into BYU (see? It's not just money) and Trey's argument with a midget. --Ellen Kim

LAGUNA BEACH: THE REAL ORANGE COUNTY -- It's one of the wealthiest, most beautiful communities in the world and MTV has unlimited access to the tight-knit power clique of eight rich, beautiful teenagers that live there. Their lives intertwine in ways you won't believe, until you drop in for a visit. Watch as these friends share experiences through parties, relationships, love triangles and small town injustices. This is where the angst and the tumultuous affairs are the stuff of prime time drama - except this is all REAL. Welcome to Paradise, otherwise known as Laguna Beach, California.
